Caramel (Sukkar Banat)

For those like me that love watching GLBT film there is a new one for Christmas in Italy. It's about women in the arab world. According to reviews this film promises to be a real revelation.
It's a lebanese film coproduced by France and Lebanon.
Just because it was produced in Lebanon one should watch it. Lately Lebanon has not been a very stable land for film-making. The film was finished just a few day before the Israele-Lebanese war started in 2006.
For the first time that I remember an international film is being aired in Italy before it is aired in the English-speaking countries. Release date in UK 7th March 2008.
First released at Cannes Film Festival 2007. Won several arabic and asian film festivals.

The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995)

It is was a pleasant surprise finding out while watching the film that one of the main actresses is Laurel Holloman 10 years nearly before her appearance as Tina, a lesbian in L-Word.
Besides that, the story is about adolescent love where just to make things "easier" this so viscerally felt love is also a lesbian love.
The couple couldn't be more different. Different background, different upbringing, different way of looking at life, living life...different everything....and yet as one may say opposites attract.
The story is truly adventurous. If it had happened to me I do not know if I would have survived especially at that age, that is 17 going 18. At least this time is a happy ending, at least till where the film finishes...
Moments of pure ironic, humoristic, surreal confusion where the world seems to fall apart with no hope of putting it straight again (pun intended!). Just as it really happens when one is adolescent....and in love.
Fun to watch.

Gypo (2005)

It's strange how many sides to a story there can be. How many realities and emotions there can be to the same single fact.
This film made me think of how nothing we know of other people's life even if we thoroughly think we know the person.
A slow paced film based I think in Dover or a village nearby. The harsh reality of misunderstandings between wife and husband, mother and daughter, locals and refugees.
Have patience but it is worth watching.

High Art (1998)

Well I didn't particularly like this film. One can't really understand who is using who. It seemed to me sort of a Lesbian trio with only pain, confusion and drugs.
I'm open to discussion...

Between Two Women (2000)

A touching, very delicate and slow growing love between a teacher and an unhappily married wife of a millworker in 1957 Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. Great in recreating the English industrial countryside and its mentality.
What I didn't appreciate is the continual music that seemed to drown whatever was being said.
